Keeping it Real
As a small business owner, I juggle alot of hats. From sourcing, tracking inventory, stocking booths, pop up markets, honoring work shifts at the antique malls, our Dead People's Things podcast, social media (for myself and LulaBs), and just life, this website gets neglected. The absolute favorite part for any vintage reseller is sourcing because the "hunt" gives us such a dopamine hit. The reality is we sometimes neglect the other parts of our business that aren't as pressing.
I've implemented tons of strategies from my past career to manage the pace and goal setting of what I do, but still struggle with buying at a pace that's manageable. (Case in point, see picture below of a wall in my dining room.) Fall means procuring enough goods to make sure I have enough to stock my booths and fill the needs of the pop up markets already on my schedule. It's more than just buying that takes time and money. I research, clean, repair and pay a significant amount for the spaces I rent and a commission to mall owners. Competition for what's out there means I pay significantly more for inventory the last couple of years. Just like every other business these days, I will have to pass that cost onto the customer.
My goal has always been to be at a price point that is manageable for almost everyone. However, after running the numbers, I know I have to focus on increasing my per item sales average to make sure there's something leftover at the end of the month to pay myself. That means I'll be filling my time procuring items with a hgher return and less inventory priced under $10. Hopefully what you find still inspires you to make your life a unique reflection of your personality at a price that doesn't make you walk away.
Todd and I have loved bringing you the best vintage we can find for over 10 years. Our goal is to make this something we take through retirement and beyond. We are honored and humbled by everyone who shops with us and want to make sure we can keep "Bringing Vintage Back" for a long time.
